Functional translation theory and business English translation开题报告

1. 研究目的与意义

In order to meet the application requirements of business translation,this paper suggested using functional translation theory to guide business English translation practice.It first studied the concept,characteristics,and development process of functional translation theory in-depth.Then from the aspects of cultural transformation and communicative interactive,it illustrated the core idea of functional translation theory.Combined with the vocabulary,sentences and chapters characteristics in business English translation,it analyzed the theoretical basis in functional translation theory application.Finally,from translation purpose,accuracy,authenticity,and relevance of the original,it discussed some practical ways to apply functional translation theory to business English translation.

2. 研究内容和预期目标

This thesis is organized in four chapters, and the main contents can be outlined as follows: Chapter one is an introduction, dealing with the background and significance of the research,and the sources of material to be used in this study. Chapter two is a full introduction of the functional translation theory and its usage context translation, On the fundamental of the introduction, it is going to analyze the usage in business English translation. Chapter three is a systematical introduction of business English translation, including the characteristics of words,sentences and context structures. More than that, chapter three also tries to illustrate how to combine the theory with the practice of business English translation. The basic methods in this study are case study and comparison. Chapter four makes a detailed analysis of the problem in business English translation, based on the functional translation theory, and these problems will be concluded so we will have a better version. At last, the thesis is summarized and limitations of the study are pointed out with suggestions for further study. At the same time, it will give a full picture of future research.

3. 国内外研究现状

Functional translation theory was originated in Germany in 1970s. The creator of this theory is Katharina Reiss. The functional translation theory is the combination of motivation, function and purpose in the translating process. The formation of the theory has gone through three stages: the book--Possibilities and Limitations in Translation Criticism the first stage of the functional translation theory, which was published in 1971 by Katharina Reiss. Then, beyond the limitation of equivalent translation focusing on the source-text, the skopos theory was created by Hans Vermeer, who is the student of Reiss. The further research and development of the theory was finished by Justa Holz Manttari.

4. 计划与进度安排

The basic methods in this study are case study and comparison. I will demonstrate how to apply this theory with business English translation.
