Translation of English Euphemism from the Perspective of Skopos Theory开题报告

1. 研究目的与意义

With the frequent cross-cultural communication, translation of language has played an important role in the cross-cultural communication. As a part of language, euphemism is widely used in our daily lives. Translating English euphemism can not only bring new elements to our language but also show us exotic culture and value. Furthermore, analyzing the translation of English euphemism is a good way to help us to understand English euphemism and use it accurately.

2. 研究内容和预期目标

My paper will give a brief introduction of English euphemism, and try to offer some common methods of translating English euphemism from the Perspective of Skopos theory. The first part will introduce the definition and function of English euphemism. Then, the paper will focus on the translation of English euphemism under certain rules, such coherence, fidelity and skopos. Finally, the common methods of translating English euphemism will be explored.

3. 国内外研究现状

skopos theory was proposed in general translation theory framework by german scholar hans vermeer in the late 1970s. later, vermeer and his teacher reiss wrote an essay ordinary translation foundation, and explained skopos theory systematically.

there have been many researches on the introduction of english euphemism and the skopos theory made by both chinese and foreign scholars, for example, slang and euphemism written by richard a. spears published in 2001 and a dictionary of english euphemism by liu chunbao in china.

because of the frequent use of english euphemism in the cross-cultural communication and some translation practices, we should pay more attention to the translation of it. that is why i attempt to make a research on this topic.
