1. 研究目的与意义（文献综述）

in terms of the essence oftranslation, the translation researchers hold different points of view. forthose who study translation from linguistic perspective regard translationactivity as science, while those from cultural perspective view it as a form ofart. however, whether translation is a kind of science or art, it is no doubtthat the nature of translation is cross-cultural and cross-linguisticcommunication. just like eugene nida once said: “translation is communication.”communicative function should have been taken as a criterion of evaluatingtranslation works. furthermore, the translation works among chinese ancientculture worth to be researched especially for the asymmetric information,difficult understanding and great significance. for example, the culturalimage, which also can be seen as aesthetic image, plays a vital role in thecreation of chinese ancient poems. it enriches the poems’ artistic language andbeautifies the poetic implications. despite that fact that it is very hard to transferthe cultural image from the source language to the target language without anyloss of poetic implications, both chinese and overseas researchers have beenstudying the object for many years. in this paper, the author will focus on the translation strategies of hanshan poems from theperspective of communication studies. in other words, this paper is meant toquest for the relevance between fulfilling communicative function and choosingtranslation strategies with evidence.

2. 研究的基本内容与方案

the contents objectives: this paper aims to dosome research on the translation of hanshan poems. in general, it is dividedinto four sections. firstly, it is brief introduction of chinese hanshan poems,which attracts the full attention of overseas. secondly, it gives a list ofdifferent versions of english hanshan poems translated by chinese translatorsand overseas scholars. for instance, gary snyder, the translator and poet inthe beat generation, will be analyzed particularly. thirdly, this papersummarizes the strategies of translating hanshan poems from the perspective ofcommunicative function. fourthly, it is the conclusion, narrating thesignificance of present research nowadays. communication-oriented translationstrategies actually facilitate the bilingual and bicultural transfer of hanshanpoems in that certain period of time. to carry out this study is meant to offersome insights into conveying chinese culture to the western world.
