research purpose:

being the literary giants in the history of literature, stephen crane andlu xun have affected countless people worldwide since the advent of their works. in modern society, numerous scholars studied stephen crane and lu xun and their works from different aspects and approaches, aiming at a better understanding of theessence. however, most of them are done separately within one texture. even if some are discussed with comparison from both domestic literature, no research is completed with content originated from different country. this paper is going to study the similarities and differences of “the lonely” in stephen crane’s maggie: a girl of the streetsand the red badge of courageand lu xun’s gu du zhefrom perspectivesof mental and physical state; thereafter, to reveal the mental state of human beings.
