jane austen was a famous british novelist in 19^th century, she was known as the british women shakespeare for a long time. with the female specific meticulous observation, she drew a true picture about her small world. almost each of her novels was wit, which critics called comedy of manners. these comedy works were like mirrors of life, showing the human relationships and realities. not only did they attract a large number of readers at that time, but also they give readers an unique artistic enjoyment.

The thesis intends to give a detailed analysis to the different marriages of the main characters in Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility, concluding Jane Austen#8217;s view of marriage. The thesis mainly consists of five parts: introduction, analysis of marriages in two works, causes for Jane Austen#8217;s view of marriage, influences of Jane Austen#8217;s view of marriage to society and conclusion. Firstly, the introduction is concerned with the present state of the relevant research, the purpose of this paper, the significance of the chosen topic, and the information about Jane Austen and her two works. Secondly, the analysis of marriages in two works includes four marriages in Pride and Prejudice: Collins and Charlotte#8217;s marriage, Lydia and Wickham#8217;s marriage, Jane and Mr. Bingley#8217;s marriage, and Darcy and Elizabeth#8217;s marriage, and two marriages in Sense and Sensibility: Elinor#8217;s and Marianne#8217;s marriages. According to analyzing and comparing marriages in works, the thesis gets the ideas of Jane Austen#8217;s view of marriage. Then, the thesis will analyze the causes for Jane Austin#8217;s view of marriage and influences of Jane Austen#8217;s view of marriage to society. At last, the conclusion summarizes the thesis.

How can people do to get a happy marriage? What are the factors that influence the degree of happiness of marriage? How should we choose to get a happy marriage when we can#8217;t possess all these factors that influence the marriage?

for a long time, critics always investigate the author jane austen#8217;s view of marriage, vivid and exquisite language use, and so on, according to analyzing and comparing her works, such as pride and prejudice, sense and sensibility. and no matter in which societies, and which countries, marriage is a hot social issue.

as i know, our country has many scholars to study jane austen view of marriage and her two works. the first chinese study on the marriage in pride and prejudice would be zhu aiping, and in her article attitude toward marriage in jane austen#8217;s pride and prejudice, she expressed her point that #8220;by the stories we can see, it mainly tells of the love story between a rich proud young man darcy and the beautiful and intelligent woman elizabeth bennet.#8221; and there are many scholars studying sense and sensibility. for example, the scholar hou jundan#8217;s article marianne#8217;s four landscape- sense and sensibility which was published at 5^th, 2008, analyzed the characteristics and changes of marianne, describing marianne changing from a female who was lack of reason and only used emotion to control her in love to a female like her sister who thought questions rationally, and finally getting a happy marriage.
