there are three reasons for choosing this topic:

First, it is for my interest. Forrest Gump won six awards of Oscar in 1995, to some extent, it is not only a movie, but it was also a kind of symbol of American culture. This movie brought people back to 60s of United States and reviewed the American history for 30 years. It was a generation that many people lost their confidence in life. So this movie created a hero who wanted to change this world and appealed to regain American tradition values. I feel it is worth doing some study. Second, we can research American culture through this movie. When we enjoy this movie, we find that Forrest gump and Jenny are real portrait of two kinds of people in that world. Forrest gump#8217;s mother affected his life and made a great influence on his success. I have discussed a question with my classmates: how to give a proper position for Forrest gump and Jenny so that it could reflect American culture better in that age through them. Third, based on the study above through some analysis for Forrest gump and Jenny about their character and features, we can know more about American values and how these values changed America.

2. 研究内容和预期目标

This is a movie that reflects American history culture and American values. This thesis intends to give some detailed analysis to the main characters and we would have a more specific understanding to American culture through these characters. This thesis mainly consists of three parts: introduction, analysis to the main characters and conclusion. Firstly, the introduction is concerned with the American history culture and values; it also includes some introduction to the movie setting and the main characters. Secondly, this is the most important part of this paper, it consists of four part, concerning the analysis to Forrest gump, Jenny, Bubba and Lieutenant Dan. At last, the conclusion summarizes the thesis. This thesis aims at American culture in 1960s, it can make readers understand the American history better and know more about American culture. The Forrest Gump is not just a movie, it is the symbol of the development of American culture.

Above all, from this paper, we can know what American culture is and how to be reflected from these main characters. What#8217;s more, we can know how the American values returned and how it changed America.

Forrest Gump is a very popular movie. And we all know that this movie reflects American culture and values. So many scholars have done many studies on this movie. Most of them is from the point of the main content, This thesis is from the point of main characters to study the American culture and value; it mainly analyzes the image and psychology of the main characters, it could reflect American culture more detailed form the details. There are few researches about the main characters, so the point of this thesis is relatively original. On the one hand, from the analysis of the main characters, the readers will have a better understanding of American culture. On other hand, from this thesis, the readers will know what this culture is and how it changed American. It will enrich the interpretation of this movie.
