1. 研究目的与意义

Double preposition is a special structure in English prepositional collocation. As a part of language, double preposition is endowed with different types and abundant connotations. Double preposition can be seen as the omission of prepositional collocation and it is closely connected with human beings#8217; cognitive ability. It takes us less effort to grasp the meaning of articles in college intensive reading from different angles such as space and time by studying the omission and the complex types of double preposition.

2. 研究内容和预期目标

My paper will give a brief introduction of double preposition, its types and its composing conditions, and try to make comparison between double preposition and other prepositional phrases and to analyze the meanings and motivations for people to study it. The first part will introduce the definition of double preposition. Secondly, the paper will discuss three types of double preposition. Thirdly, several ways to compose double preposition will be introduced. Fourthly, comparison between double preposition and other prepositional phrases will be explored. Fifthly, the paper will analyze the meaning of double preposition. Finally, the pragmatic motivation why people study it will be discussed.

3. 国内外研究现状

there have been many researches on the introduction of double prepositions made by both chinese and foreign scholars, for example, yu jianwei, liu yan , kemmerer d,and tranel d have offered their opinions concerning the definition and types of double preposition.

because of the frequent use of double preposition in intensive reading and books, we should pay more attention to the types of it and the techniques to understand it. that is why i attempt to make a research on this topic.
