#8220;Sense and Sensibility#8221; was the first novel of British well-known Jane Austin, which caused a mild flutter among viewers when it was published for the first time..This work mainly tells different positions as well as attitude of two sisters with different personalities towards the men around them and reveals the nature of function and mind of love embodied from the story. Austin#8217;s major works concerned about the marriage and life of household women and authentically described woman#8217;s world with precise observation and lovely letters. Justin#8217;s problems are still the most important problems that we take care of. Nevertheless, Justin#8217;s observation not only can help us deeply understand the essence of humanity as well as woman#8217;s true internal world, but also can enable us to further learn the black historical social and time background. Under such background, regardless of famous political people or rich people in rural area, all of them treat the marriage as the platform whereby they exhibited their own wealth, capability and influence. In this case, the author displayed the incapable awareness of women to the marriage as well as life with highly realistic style, therefore the study on women awareness in the work of #8220; Sense and Sensibility#8221;will be of great significance for the readers to more profoundly understand the theme and historical meaning to modern time, moreover, it will be helpful for us to know the disadvantage of British patriarch social ideology as well as Women social status and psychological conception to the marriage.
2. 研究内容和预期目标
this thesis will analyze the reflections of woman awareness through the linguistic description concerning the main protagonists in sense and sensibility, namely, elinor and marianne. in this research, the author firstly read sense and sensibility in detail and then made a linguistic description of main protagonists in this novel.
the present study will try to find out the answer to the following questions:
1. what is the distributions of different appraisal resources concerning the main protagonists?

as a female writer in western literary,jane austen is regarded as a #8220;classic#8221; and her works draws numbers of readers. as the first outstanding critical admirer of jane austen, sir walter scott firstly made a comment on emma eminently and later he studied other works of justin austen. in 1962, the author of jane austen#8217;s novels, howard s. babb, centers on studying the dramatic action through the character#8217;s conversion in the fictions.he mainly studies the way the personality and demeanor of jane austen#8217;s characters are depicted via their dialogue(babb,1962:98). jane austen is treated as a complete creator by mary waldron, the writer of jane austen and the fiction of her time. this book focuses on the intrinsic quality of her discrepancy between the other fictionists in victorian time and reveals how her difference from them has brought great transformation to novels.(waldron,1999:65)
the romance and irony in the six well-known novels of jane austen, in pride and prejudice, northanger abbey, and sense and sensibility, the related study is conducted by rechel m.brownstein in his research of essay; while the remance and irony in her remaining works. this kind of study provides new perspectives and views for scholars to study jane austen#8217;s main literary works, which are studied in isolation before( copelandamp;juliet, 2001:12-120). jane austen#8217;s advancement in the field of british fiction is discussed by gary kelly(1989) in the political and religious view. and john odmark(1981) showed the mode of jane austen.
in china, there are many scholars have studied jane austen and her works. chen hua(2006) conducted an analysis to the critical discourse of women language in #8220;sense and sensibility#8221;,she used the method of critical discourse to disclose common assumption about gender in order to reveal the characteristics of language use and discrimination problems against women in the novel of #8220;sense and sensibility#8221;. she analyzed the evident features of social structure existed in british and expounded unequal phenomenon in the novel of #8220;sense and sensibility#8221;.zheng xiang（2011）analyzed #8220;sense and sensibility#8221; from female narrative perspective, he used narrative theory to concentrate on the text structure, narrative technique as well as gender politics embodied in the novel of #8220;sense and sensibility#8221; , further to reflect women#8217;s independent awareness with the narrative technique.(zheng xiang,2011). xu ying amp; li zhongxia(2016) studied the theme of #8220; sense and sensibility#8221; from the perspective of eco-feminism.qianjin(2013) studied the marriage value in the novel of#8220; sense and sensibility#8221;, he pointed out that austen#8217;s creation mainly focuses on middle-class women#8217;s love and marriage value at that time, and he thought that complete and harmonious marriage should be guaranteed by money and social status, progressively he advised marriage should be reasonable rather than sole feeling.
