研究背景 research background
core competence was first proposed by oecd in 1997. in recent years, core competence has become a hot topic of interest in the realm of education. the promulgation of the english curriculum standards for compulsory education (2022 edition) signifies that the objectives of the compulsory education english curriculum will shift from comprehensive language competence to core competence-oriented.
the core competence of english curriculum includes language ability, cultural awareness, thinking quality and learning ability. cultural awareness is a basic component of the core competence of english subject, which refers to students cross-cultural cognition, attitude and behavior orientation under the background of globalization. with the development of globalization, the cultivation of cultural awareness has received wide attention. junior high school is an important stage to cultivate cultural awareness. integrating cultural knowledge into english teaching and comparing cultural similarities and differences can stimulate students interest, enhance national self-consciousness and pride, and strengthen confidence in culture.

3. 研究的方法与步骤
in order to solve the questions raised, this study adopts the research methods of questionnaire and textbook analysis.
questionnaire
the purpose of the questionnaire is to investigate the actual teaching status and specific problems in the cultivation of cultural awareness in junior english reading teaching. the questionnaire is divided into teacher version and student version. the questionnaire for teachers mainly involves teachers teaching experience, how to improve students cultural awareness according to the requirements of english curriculum, the confusion, problems and limitations in english reading teaching, and the cultivation of students cultural awareness. through the questionnaire for students, junior high school students understanding of culture and the current situation of cultural awareness cultivation in reading class can be understood.
