1. 研究目的与意义(文献综述)
traditionally, the scholars researched the history in a political angle to grasp the broadsituation, meanwhile, ignoring the important details. in england, criticalhistoriography did not emerge until the late nineteenth century, beginning fromthe political system history and economic history, thus there are a number ofprominent institutional and economic historians such as w. stubbs (1825-1901),j. r. green (1837-1883), f. w. maitland (1850-1960). as the large medieval datacompilations arised, like roll series, the scholars found the possibility toresearch the middle ages from different perspectives, which supported theimpetus to promote the study of the rural life and the internal structure ofthe middle ages.
this paper aims to introduce the medievalcountry life from the perspective of the farmers in england, by narratingmedieval manor farmers’ daily life and work, mastery of knowledge, the social systembased on the manor management, religious culture and propagation, operation andimplementation of the law, humans’ understanding and expectation for the socialstructure and other aspects, exploring the different levels of the reasonsengland had made progress, namely the basic elements the english society hadcontained, which could also be regarded as the soil of the capitalist society, and then, explain the causation england became the first country wherebourgeois revolution commenced in the world. for example, on the one hand, theformation of modern nation-state in england is propitious to adapt to the earlyeuropean order change (from political order to economic order). theurbanization transformation of the country is based on medieval urban systemwhich is first application in territorial state. on the other hand, themedieval christian culture carries on the academic tradition of ancient greekphilosophy and natural science knowledge, and aristotle’s doctrine become thebasic knowledge among the christians. at the same time, the medieval christianculture contains various materials of heretical thoughts, which promotes thedevelopment of the free thoughts and the formation of modern scientificthoughts.
evenif the paper elaborates the living conditions of english farmers before600-700 years, it reveals british farmers and rural development road. for thecountries which are still in pursuit of agricultural modernization and solvingthe issues concerning agriculture, countryside and farmers, taking china as anexample, the significance seems instructive and remarkable: the improvement offarmers' life in england had gone through a long and effective process. it isthe cornerstone that encourages the emergence of the agricultural revolution,of the commercial revolution and of the industrial revolution which has shockedthe world and changed humans’ life. as we know, china still stays in theprimary stage of socialism. during the two sessions, premier li stressed that agriculture, country andfarmer issue will be still considered as the fundamental problem, which shouldbe placed in the dominating position. with the technologyincreasingly developing, in order to quicken our pace to catch up with thedeveloped countries, the most significant task for china is to take history asa mirror, focusing on the present, continuously forging ahead.
