amongallofhiswork,themostfamousonewasthelightofasiawhichwaspublishedin1879andwasanimmediatesuccess.besides,ithadbeentranslatedintovariouslanguagessuchashindi,chinese,french,andsoon.itwasapoemofeightbooksinblankverse.init,inarnold'sownwords,heattempted'bythemediumofanimaginarybuddhistvotarytodepictthelifeandcharacterandindicatethephilosophyofthatnobleheroandreformer,princegautamaofindia,founderofbuddhism'.however,somepeoplealsoheldnegativeviewsaboutthecontent.someorientalscholarsbelievedthatitgiveafalseimpressionofbuddhistdoctrine.while,ontheotherhand,thesuggestedanalogybetweensakyamuniandjesusoffendedthetasteofsomedevoutchristians.butitshouldstillbeadmittedthatitisthefirstattempttoshowandanalyzetheparamountgoldineast--princegautama.

itismanifestthattheresearchaboutreligionliteratureandcultureisalwayspaidmoreattentionbythescholarsinenglandandamericacomparedwiththeresearchersinasia.however,themajorstreamresearchitemischristianwhilethebuddhismcultureresearchisstillunderthebottompositioninthewesternreligioncultureandliterature.asaresult,therearelittleamountofresearchfromthecultureanalysiseyesightinresentyearstodiscusstherelativebuddhismculture,suchasthedifferentunderstandingaboutthebuddhismbetweentheeastandwest,thetroublewithbuddhism,therelationshipbetweenreligionandscience,thepsychologyinfluenceareafrombuddhism,andsoon.
