research purpose:

this paper aims to analyze the identitylose and exploration of milkman dead in song of solomon. the author, tonimorrison, as an african american female writer, felt the danger of assimilationof white culture on black culture. morrison had taken every effort to promotethe position of black culture in the mainstream of white culture. she alsobelieved that the development of the black and their culture should be dependon their own, she created milkman as a typical character and use hisself-seeking experience to provide an attitude between tradition culture andmodernization when facing the predominate position of white culture in america.therefore, to analyze milkman dead from the perspective of culture not only forunderstanding characteristics of the protagonist as well as theme of the novel,but also find the referential and beneficial ways of contemporary blackculture.
