cultural soft power has now becomeincreasinglyimportantfor measuringa country's developmentandshapingits international image.against the backdropof promoting chinese culture tothe world, chinesecities are activelybuilding good international images by promoting their unique cultural elements, namely cultural genes. nevertheless,the charm of a city is weakened in poor translation due tocultural differences and the lack of standardization in the translation market. as the officialchannelforinternational communication, the ministry offoreignaffairshas launched a series of promotional videos to publicizehistorical, geographical, economic and technological informationofchinese provinces. theselectionand translation of the cultural genesin the videosare worthstudying forfuturepublicity workfor chinese cities.thus, this paper aims to explore the translation strategies of mfa-produced chinese provinces promotion short videos from the perspective of cultural genes.
