in recent years, as the rapid development of society, profound and complex changes have been taking place in international landscape. proposed by the current superpower in the world, american dream has stronger influence in the mainstream of world culture. on the basis of the changing world stage, it’s essential to study the american dream. and afilm conveys its " national will" and " value judgment". the degree of film industry also is a direct mirror of a country’s soft power. the movies in an era can reflect the value system in this time. by the comparative analyse in the two films,the pursuit of happinessand the great gatsby, this paper will discuss the cultural values that reflected in the movies and aims to analyse the connotation of the american dream in different times. and trying to get beneficial experience from the changing history of it.
