research purpose:

from the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries, western fantasy novels and movies have been all the rage. the lord of the ringstrilogy is undoubtedly the founding work among them, most because the important conception of the "secondary world" created by its author, j.r.r. tolkien, has far-reaching influences on many famous contemporary fantasy literary works, such as a song of ice and fireby george r.r. martin and harry potterby j.k. rowling. however, on such a meaningful theory the associated research is relatively deserted, which needs to be studied and explored. therefore, under the guidance of tolkien’s theory of “secondary world”, this research explores the symbolic significance of arda — the “secondary world” in the lord of the rings, and then compares the realistic society as well as the counterpart in art by analyzing the text.
