Syntactic Differents Between Chinese and English开题报告

1. 研究目的与意义

With cross-cultural communication being increasingly frequent and further, we ought to attach a great significance to figure out the syntactic differences between Chinese and English because English is a language belonging to Indo-European, while Chinese belongs to Sino-Tibetan. The different cultural background leads to the syntactic and thinking differences between Chinese and English. Grasping the differences is a good way to help us to improve the level of English writing and Chinese-English translation.

2. 研究内容和预期目标

My paper will give a brief introduction of the differences of syntactic elements sequence features and cohesive devices between Chinese and English. The first parts will introduce the syntax research contents. Next is the discrepancies of syntactic elements sequence features between Chinese and English, like the different syntactic structures and the different position of attributives and adverbials. Then, the paper will introduce the differences of cohesive devices between Chinese and English from grammatical devices, such as reference, ellipsis, substitution, and conjunction..

3. 国内外研究现状

In Cohesion in English, Halliday studies the cohesion that arises from semantic relations between sentences. Reference from one to the other，repetition of word meanings，the conjunctive force of but，so，then and the like are considered. Further，it describes a method for analysing and coding sentences，which is applied to specimen texts.

In《语篇的衔接与连贯》by Hu Zhuanglin, in addition of the theory of Halliday, Hu also exposed to pragmatics, conversation analysis, discourse macroscopic structure and so on.

syntax, researching sentence structure, comes from the greek linguistics, literally, it means arranged. sentences are arranged according to a specific mode of word arrangements. sentence arranged correctly is considered as grammatical sentences, which are constructed in accordance with a set of syntactic rules. syntax is a system of rules. syntax is a system of a limited number of abstract rules composed by a combination of words from the sentence. the syntax of the sentence refers to the synthesis of a sentence must meet native speakers minds of grammatical knowledge.
