he disclosed and criticized the evil of colonist and colonial expansion by using symbolic way. while the symbolism is one of the most important technique in western and chinese literature from 18th to 20th century. the meanning and importance of the symbolism is worth us researching on it.

The rich symbolic implications in the novel make the plot too complicated to undersatand the infer meaning hidden below the content for readers. What''''s more,thespiritual change of the main character and narrator may puzzled the readers a lot because they cannot get the meaning of all the implications and the historical background it represents. This essay refers to study on the multi-meaning of several important symbolic implication shown in the novel and find some new thing through the study process.#8221;First,The definition of symbolism and symbolic applications should be introduced in essay. Then the most important and contrast application -#8220;dark and light#8221; will play a role in the essay.Finally,showing the study on other symbolic applications such as fog,river,and so on.

A novella,Heart of Darkness is Joseph Conrad''''s most famous work and a foundational text on the subjrct of colonialism. Heart of Darkness is based in part of trip that Conrad took through modern-day Congo during his years as a sailor.So far, scholars at home and broad had pay so much attention to the novel.From what I knew, At home, The study of the heart of darkness gets more attention. But the translation and infer researching such as the theme take most part of the whole. As I knew, the translators of the two most popularversions are Hunanping and Huangshiyu.In foreign countries, the research on this work is tend to be mature, the foreign scholars have got more theories such as impressionism and symbolism in this novel. Watt Ian, Dennis, and other famous scholars had published so many journal articles on duplicity, humanity and other literally aspects about the study of Heart of Darkness and Conrad''''s other works.
