With the frequent cross-cultural communication, grasping the cultural connotations of language has played an important role in the cross-cultural communication.Taboo words is very important for us when we doing cross-culture communication.To understand the differences of taboo words help us to understand the culture of Western and Chinese and help us communicate in a better way.

2. 研究内容和预期目标

My paper will give a brief introduction the types of differences between Western and Chinese culture in taboo words,history and background of differences between Western and Chinese culture in taboo words and how to avoid to use them.

There have been many researches on the introduction of cultural connotations of color terms and their translation made by both Chinese and foreign scholars, for example 《英汉禁忌语对比研究》 by WangPan in HeNan university,China.And Don#8217;t Do It:ADictionary of the Forbidden by Philip Thody.

in today#8217;s multi-cultural society. in the international communication requires us to master the use of taboo language. to do this, requires us to understand the cultural differences between chinese and western. to understand its formation reasons and differences. in this way we can communicate better.
