1. 研究目的与意义

Emily Bronte, the well-knownBritish novelist of Victorian era, is almost a household name to most people inBritain. Wuthering Heights, the only novel written by her throughout herlifetime, which was not accepted, even abused by critics after it was publishedin 1847 though, makes her famous all over the world. In the work of lt;Wuthering Heightsgt;,the two main elements are love and hatred. As well, both love and hatred can betransferred. The male main character Heathdiff. He was abandoned when he was ababy, then he was adopted by Mr Eamshaw,so he appreciated him ,he reallyloved him like his own father. However, Mr Eamshaw#8217;s son just hated him, when Mr Eamshaw died, the son Hindley tried his best to persecute him. SoHeathdiff hated him. He was forced to do the boring jobs like a slave, but hewas able to bear it, because his lover Miss Catherine can give him courage,Heathdiff really loved Catherine, even take her as his own world. However,Catherine also betrayed him, and she then fell in love with the rich man Lintonand then married him. Thus Heathdiff#8217;s world fell. Just because he lovedCatherine, so the fact caused him to curse her, here love caused hatred, soHeathdiff tried his best to set up the Linton#8217;s and then force them to die. Hethought it was the best way for revenge, however, when he has achieved these,he never felt happy. Finally he realized that the way to become happy, won#8217;t bebased on hatred, it will only be caused by love. Thus, the researchsignificance of this thesis, is just to tell the readers, to love, but not to hate, since hatred is the curelest way to punish oneself.
