this paper takes the conflicts between parents and children in the two books as the basis for comparing the educational differences between china and the united states, and then discuss the identity crisis of chinese-american second-generation immigrants. study on cultural conflicts would also be mentioned, which is one of the factors that cause the conflicts of education. exploring cultural conflict issues helps parents in chinese-american families adopt a more efficient and appropriate approach to educate their children. meanwhile, in order to meet the new round of challenges in the context of globalization, the author tries to find an effective way of integration between the two cultures, which could improve chinese cultural inclusion.
2. 研究内容和预期目标
taking the joy luck club and everything i never told you as examples, the essay analyzes the educational conflicts between parents and their children in the works and focuses on the identity crisis of chinese-american second-generation immigrants. the paper aims to explore the root of the identity crisis and the conclusion is that the root lies in the cultural conflicts between china and the united states. and then the paper discusses how to make a compromise in dealing with cultural conflicts.
the essay is divided into six parts. chapter one is introduction to works and their writers and chapter two is about literature review. the third chapter tells us the causes, representations and impacts of educational conflicts. when parents immigrated to the united states and began raising their children, they consciously or unconsciously instilled in their children their own culture and educational ideas rooted in their bones in a pattern they had long been accustomed to and familiar with. as children grow up in the united states, the conflict between mainstream american culture and educational methods accepted by children and the chinese culture that their parents have always insisted on becomes more apparent. chapter four is a transitional chapter. it discusses in detail the content of the identity crisis, which is caused by several factors and represents cultural conflicts. parents’ blind obedience to one kind of culture that they have always insisted on not only has a very negative impact on the psychological growth of children, but also led to the identity crisis. the next chapter focuses on conflicts between american and chinese cultures and give some advises on reaching a compromise between different cultures. the conflict between parents and children is not only the embodiment of the gap between two generations, but also the collision of two cultures——traditional chinese culture and western culture. their mutual confusion and dissatisfaction is not only the result of the contradiction between family relations, but also the psychological confusion caused by the friction between immigrant culture and the mainstream culture. and the last chapter makes a summary of the essay.
