1. 研究目的与意义（文献综述）

research purpose:

translation is not only languages transformation but also an important way to promote people exchange ideas between different cultures. lin yutang, one of the greatest translators in china, has done a great deal for the study on translation. at the same time, he also created a lot of literary works about chinese culture and translated them into english.the wisdom of laotseis such a work, which introduces the tao culture and even the ancient chinese philosophy to the western world——tao plays an important role in chinese traditional culture, and laotse is the most representative character of tao. in this work, lin expounded the unique theories of laotse, and compared taoism with confucianism. this research concludes the negotiations of chinese and foreign cultures in the process of translation from comparing two versions of lin yutang’sthe wisdom of laotse, and analyzes the translator lin yutang’s translation strategies, translation theories and translation methods in the face of the difficulties created by allusions, customs and idioms.
