research purpose:

fornearly a century, stream of consciousness stood out from all the literarygenres for its unique style. using mostly psychological descriptions, it shakesoff the chronological order for traditional narration, and its plots aretherefore always lack of logic. despite of all these features, this type ofnovels are still well received by readers.

virginiawoolf, as a representative of stream of consciousness, was studied by variousmethods. most researches aimed at the painting techniques applied to hernovels. the relationship between visual sense and reader experience was, however,scarcely discussed at length.

research targets:

1.underline the important role of visual sense playedin literature and study its specific examples in to the lighthouse.

2.point out the reason why stream of consciousness waswell received and reveal how the writer-reader communication works bycross-analyzing relevant materials.
