with the rapid development of economy globalization, business negotiation has become a common way in business trade. it occurs when two or more parties have interests with each other and want to work together, but who also have conflicts about some problems. and it is considered as the most important and direct means of communication. nonverbal communication plays a vital role in business negotiations, and understanding negotiators#8217;behaviors can be greatly helpful for achieving mutually satisfactory agreement.
after china#8217;s entry into wto, it has had more opportunities to get involved in international business affairs and to take part in business negotiations. china has become one of the decisivefactors in world economy. china is the world#8217;s largest developing country and the united states is the world#8217;s largest developed country. the business relationship between china and the united states is at its best these years which is a powerful motivator to the development of world economy. so in order to avoid some unnecessary misunderstandings and have better business cooperation between china and the united states, the comprehension of nonverbal communication such as postures, gestures, countenances and so on is really important.

3. 国内外研究现状
there are many researches about nonverbal communication abroad. in 1950s, researches in this field got a breakthrough. edward t. hall#8217;s thesilent language(1959)and birdwhistell#8217;sintroduction to kinesics(1952)laid the foundation. and in the 1980s, researches got remarkable advances.l.brosnahan#8217;schinese and english gesture:contrastive nonverbal communication(1991)first compared nonverbal communication in china with that in the english speaking country in a comprehensive way.
in china, there also have many academic achievements in nonverbal communication.some scholars such as liu sheqing, hu wenzhong, bijiwan all have famous works which haveimportant effects on the study in that field.
