Fleshy fruits constitutes a commercially important and nutritionally indispensable food commodity. Field tomatoes are amenable to mechanical harvesting through the combined efforts of plants breeders and agricultural engineers, thus allowing vast tonnages to be grown and processed economically. The products are incorporated into a wide range of canned, frozen, preserved or dried foods. In view of their economic importance, and because they are amenable to the techniques of molecular biology and genetic engineering, tomato fruit have been selected for intense study at molecular level over the last decade, both in China and abroad.

The main objective of my research project is:

  1. To learn the basics of molecular cloning process
  2. To understand the characteristics of NCED1 gene in tomato plants
  3. To learn how to use some bioinformatics systems
  4. The contents of my research project will include extraction of RNA from tomato plant tissues. The NCED1 gene was amplified from tomato seedlings by RT- PCR , and ligated with the vector to identify and perform bioinformatics analysis of NCED1 gene.
  5. The main issue to be solved is cloning of gene, study its characteristics and what are its significant roles in tomato plants

  7. Bioinformatics Analysis Total RNA was extracted from one week old tomato with TRIZOL reagent and its integrity was identified .

4. 研究创新点

The features and the innovativeness of my research lies not on the experimental part of my project but on being able to use bioinformatics systems to find more information about my gene. I will use a phylogeny tree to show the evolutionary relationship between various gene sequences that are supposed to have a common ancestor.
