1. 研究目的与意义（文献综述）

William Golding is one of the greatest writers in 1950s. Lord of the Files is one of his most famous representative work. William Golding got the Noble Prize for literary in 1983 because of this book. He experienced the World War and saw the darkness of the western society in twentieth century. This kind of experience made him involved in the thinking of human nature. As the result, Lord of the Files existed with the theme of evil in human nature and human salvation. The advent of this novel in 1954 aroused western society’s strong reaction. Most people prefer to analyze the theme of this novel, few people prefer the way of expression and literal features of this novel. What’s more, many focused more on its modern features or the analysis of its theme, however, postmodern features in Lord of the Files have been paid less attention before. From the writer’s opinion, postmodern literature also plays an important role in the history of literary. Postmodern literary has free language and diverse ways of expression. It has a lot of genres like theatre of absurd, expression, stream of consciousness and so on. It existed in World War and it tells modern thinking on meanings of life. In this way, we can understand the theme of this novel deeper and we can find some useful details that most people will ignore them in order to appreciate the whole novel instead of just the theme.

Lord of the Files caused a great sensation when it was published. Until now, there are many writers and critics at home and abroad analyzed postmodern features and the evil of human nature in Lord of the Files from postmodern literary, pessimism, island literature, signifies and techniques of writing. They help us understand this novel better from another side. For example, professor Wang Weixinstudied about parody and summarized Lord of the Files for nearly 20 years. For another example, Stuart Sim also writes about a book called The Routledge Companion to Postmodernism. When the writer was choosing the graduation thesis’s title, she met a problem that the difference between postmodern and postmodernism, modern and modernism. As a result, the writer will first differentiate them with their own definitions and give some examples. In the dissertation, the writer will mainly write about three postmodern features in Lord of the Files: irony and intertextuality, deconstruction of traditional theme and parody. These ways of expression give Lord of the Files new elements beyond the aesthetic experience at that time. Lord of the Files can be regarded as germination of postmodern literature on this account. On one side, William Golding extraordinary narrative techniques and the fable meaning with postmodern features show its great significance as time pass by. On the other side, it also influences the thinking of future generations a lot.

2. 研究的基本内容与方案

Lord of the files is William Golding the most famous novel and it plays an important role in history of English literature. This novel tells that a group of boys are trapped on an island because of the accident of plane. At first, they can live in harmony, however, because of the expansion of evil of human nature, they kill each other and cause the bad ending.

This novel aims to show the dark side of human nature. The dissertation can be divided into three parts. Firstly, the writer will talk about William Golding and briefly introduce the content of Lord of the Files. Secondly, the writer will analyzes three postmodern features: irony and intertextuality, deconstruction of traditional theme and parody. The last part is conclusion. In order to write this thesis well, several approaches will be used. The first is to know the fundamental theory through reading document and books which are related to the theme. The second is to get the foreign countries’ latest research results according to the collection of information from library and internet. The third is to analyze the information that the writer already got. The last but not least, it is also important that complete the thesis according to the professor’s advice.
