amytan is a prominent chinese american writer. her works have a huge impact on americanliterature. the joy luck club published in 1989, soon garnered enthusiastic reviews, remaining on the new york times bests-seller list formany months.

inthis works, the main contents are about the conflicts between mothers anddaughters.

thechinese mothers strive to instill their american-born daughters with anunderstanding of their heritage, yet also attempt to save them the pain theyfelt as girls growing up inchina.the daughters, on the other hand, often see their mother’s attempts at guidanceas a form of hypercritical meddling, or as a failure to understand americanculture. the daughters thus respond by attempting to further their mothers’assimilation. both the mothers and the daughters struggle with issue ofidentity: the mothers try to reconcile their chinese pasts with their americanpresents; the daughters attempt to find a balance between independence andloyalty to their heritage.

2. 研究的基本内容与方案

thispaper will be divided into 4 aspects. firstly, i will introduce amy tan’sbackground, which will help us make clear that her work’s source actually isher bi-cultural upbringing. secondly, i will describe the main conflicts betweenthe mothers and daughters, all the summary and analysis are based on theseconflicts. in the third part, i will illustrate some examples and analyze thereasons why the conflicts between mothers and daughters were formed. finally, iwill give some suggestions based on the analysis which will help dealing withthe conflicts between parents and children happened in real world.

throughthe study, we can learn many kinds of conflicts between parents and daughterswhich are all based on the experience of amy tan, these kinds of conflictswould also happened in our lives, especially when the western culture makeimpacts on chinese traditional culture. children can to find a way to formtheir own personalities by learning how to communicate with their parents whenthese conflicts’ arised.

giventhat this is not a science paper, collecting a large numberof relevant documents would be more appropriate. before determining the title i can search the internet to get the latest literature and learn about the freshestopinions on the study of the works, therefore i can analyze whether my subjectis similar to others’. once the subject was determined i shall study on theauthor’s life, which would help me understand the works radically.
