research purpose:

robert elwood bly is one of the most respectable andcelebrated poets of the second half of the twentieth century in america. he hasbeen recognized as a spokesman for the school of “deep image” poetry and therepresentative of the surrealist poetry since his former literary career. hispolitical poem anthology the light around the body has gained the significantstatus in the field of contemporary american poetry, which won the nationalbook awards in 1968. bly advocates the positive influence of poetry on politicsand takes an active political presence in protesting against the vietnam warand the iraq war. in 1966, he collaborated with other poets in a social groupwith the aim of calling on american writers to be against the vietnam war; his the insanity of empire: abook of poems against the iraq war in response to theiraq war was published in 2004 and some of his other political poems werecollected in hismy sentence was a thousand years of joy in 2002.

in his political poetry, his unique poetic techniques in terms of his poetic theory serve primarilypoetry itself rather than the politics. as he said, political poetry still aimsto represent the consciousness and unconsciousness as well as his other poemsdo.
