research purpose:

since the problem of global warming cameinto the public's view in the 1980s, countless people have been crying out forit, including famous movie stars, famous politicians, respected scientists, butno one can set off a “hurricane”like the ordinary girl greta thunberg. millionsof young people from more than 150 countries responded to her call to supportthe “global climate action week”in the form of strikes. the reason why a 16-year-old girl can have such agreat influence in the world in a short period of time is her superb andintelligent speech strategies.

this paper uses kenneth burke's identificationtheory to analyze and study greta’s tworepresentative environmental protection speeches to reveal how greta useseffective speech techniques to gain public recognition and explore themotivations behind her speeches.
