清华大学无线与移动数字图书馆系统的用户体验研究

摘要:清华大学图书馆最近推出了清华大学无线与移动数字图书馆系统(TWIMS),以满足用户的需求。对TWIMS用户体验进行了调查,分析用户对系统现在的功能和各项指标的满意程度。根据我们的研究结果,我们得出的结论我们的研究论文的一套评价意见和建议。目的是进一步推动TWIMS功能,并且对下一个阶段用户体验问卷调查提出建议。

1.1研究目的
由于TWIMS开发服务信息从清华教职工和学生获取的方便,本次调查的范围仅限于该组。但是,我们不能确定有谁来参与我们的调查,由于以下原因进行了人员调查,我们从所有符合资格的候选人中选取一定百分比。首先,并非所有被调查的人是实际的图书馆用户,存在其它一部分允许访问的人员,因为与大学的不同隶属关系的所有图书馆的资源和服务。其次,存在许多潜在的图书馆用户并且对TWIMS项目感兴趣,但还没有听说过它,因为它成立的时间很短。第三,有一些最初参加了问卷调查,但他们发现自己不熟悉TWIMS或对它的操作不感兴趣的人。第四,那些参加大学组织的特殊课程的短期培训的学生,也可以参与问卷调查,通过校园网,但其确切的数量无法确定。
1.2本次调查的方法

1.4结论言论

A study of user experience in Tsinghua Wireless and Mobile Digital Library System (TWIMS)

A survey of user experience about TWIMS was carried out for the purpose of studying its usersrsquo; behavior and their level of satisfaction about the system design and its various performance indicators. Based on our research findings, we concluded our research paper with a set of evaluative comments and suggestions. Those remarks are aimed at furthering the TWIMSrsquo; functionality and reconstructing a more sensible questionnaire survey appertaining to the system usersrsquo; experience as well in the next phase of our extended Research.

1.1The research purpose
As TWIMS is developed to serve the convenience of information seeking for Tsinghua faculty members, staff and students, the scope of this survey is confined to this group. However, we cannot be sure about the percentage of those who responded to our survey among all eligible candidates that were surveyed owing to the following reasons. First of all, not all of those people being surveyed are actual library users or permitted to access all library resources and services because of the nature of their different affiliation status with the University. Secondly, there are many potential library users who are interested in the TWIMS project but have not yet heard about it because it has just been established for a very short period of time. Thirdly, there are some of those who had initially participated in the questionnaire survey but dropped out later as they found themselves unfamiliar or not interested in the TWIMS operation. Fourthly, those students who enrolled in the short-term training courses run irregularly by the University can also gain access to the questionnaire survey through the campus network but their exact number could not be determined.
1.2 The survey method
It is impossible to do a strict random sampling in our actual research due to the above-mentioned reasons. Actually, the research process depends on the level of our success in statistical data collecting and an interpretative analysis. These researchers could not always obtain desired data consistent with the requirements of the targeted research objective during the actual data collection process. So we carried out a convenience sampling, which is a non-probability sampling technique allowing data collecting from those eligible candidates who are conveniently available to provide them. We placed our emphasis and concentrated efforts on a user data analysis and also on the production of a practical guideline for the development of TWIMS. Although there is a relatively larger area of deviation in convenience sampling , the data we collected are ample enough to meet the current need for our project itself. The questionnaires were produced by the network survey platform of Zhijizhibi website and were mounted on the website of Tsinghua University and the bulletin board of the University Library homepage. Participation in responding to the questionnaires was open to all faculty members

It should be noted that not every freshman has access to a computer connected to the Internet at school. As a result, their Internet surfing time and frequency are less in this survey than those students in other grade categories. They had a lower rate of participation. Moreover, we offered special incentives to those
who completed a set of two related questionnaires fully in order to improve the rate of the questionnaire returns. That turned out to be as effective as expected.
4 Improvement strategies for TWIMS based information service
The questionnaire survey of TWIMS has provided us with a few insights about our strength and deficiencies in the present system settings. We draw valuable lessons and inspirations from the opinions and suggestions of those respondentsrsquo; questionnaire returns and also from our own practical experience gained during the initial phase of implementing TWIMS. It is hoped that through our continued review of the issues involved in this project, we can be one step closer toward professional Excellence. We can learn from the practice of the library to enhance publicity and user training, emphasize on the practicability of the systemrsquo;s functions and name the system functions according to usersrsquo; accustomed assumptions or perceptions
Conclusion remarks
TWIMS is targeted to serve the information needs of the entire body of all faculty members, staff and students of the University. However, the data from the questionnaire returns showed that students constituted over 80% of the respondents, whereas the percentage of the combined questionnaire returns of staff and faculty members was less than 20%. This imbalanced questionnaire return from a mixture of grossly disproportionate groups was frankly quite unexpected and unprepared by us. We can only infer that staff and faculty members at Tsinghua University have yet to catch up with their student counterparts in using those functions inherent in
a cell phone for accessing library information resources and services. Thus, it follows that the orientation classes offered by the Library for using these systems have yet to be further defined and strengthened. We can also see clearly that the Libraryrsquo;s publicity for and the userrsquo;s training of these systems are left much to be desired, especially in terms of attracting a large number of legitimate users on campus.
