1. 研究目的与意义

this thesis aims to analyze the influences of native language transfer on second language acquisition. for a native learner who has already mastered the pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar structure of the mother tongue, his or her second language acquisition must be influenced by native language knowledge. additionally, the ways of thinking, the cultural context and so on will also influence second language acquisition. native language transfer exists in all kinds of learning process and the forms of transfer are various.

i want to analyze the influences of native language transfer on second language acquisition because second language learning must be affected by native language, especially when chinese students learn english. it is important for chinese who learn english to know how chinese affect english learning. i hope this kind of study can find the positive or negative influences of chinese transfer on english learning from some aspects. in that case, my study can give some suggestions on english learning to english learner or english teachers.

from my point of view, present english learning methods may have some shortcomings. if english learners or teachers can take advantages of chinese transfer#8217;s influences research, english learning methods will be improved and learners or teachers will learn or teach english better.

2. 研究内容和预期目标

The thesis intends to give a detailed analysis to the influences of native language transfer on second language acquisition from the phonological level, lexical level and syntactical level as well as the language style, the ways of thinking, the customs and habits and the cultural context. It also adopts some commonly accepted contemporary linguistic theories. This thesis mainly consists of four parts: introduction, native language transfer#8217;s influences on second language acquisition, including positive and negative influences, suggestions and conclusion. Firstly, the introduction is concerned with the purpose of this paper, and the significance of the chosen topic. Secondly, native language transfer#8217;s influences on second language acquisition are the main part of this thesis. It consists of two parts, concerning the analysis from positive and negative level. Positive level consists of phonology, vocabulary and grammar and negative level includes language style, ways of thinking, customs and habits and cultural context. Thirdly, the suggestions on improving English learning. At last, the conclusion summarizes this thesis. The practical significance of this thesis is to indicate how Chinese influence English learning, and therefore give suggestions to English learners so that they can learn English more effectively.

How native language transfer influence second language acquisition? Which aspect is positive transfer and which aspect is negative transfer? How to take advantage of positive transfer during English learning? How to avoid the influences of negative transfer? These types of questions would be discussed in my paper primarily.

3. 国内外研究现状

There are some studies about the second language acquisition in western and China, not a lot. I want to gather information for my thesis through each possible channel. Extensive researches have already been done in the area of native language interference on the target language. Dulay(1982)defined interference as the automatic transfer, due to habit, of the surface structure of the first language onto the surface of the target language. Lott(1983)defined interference as errors in the learner#8217;s use of the foreign language that can be traced back to the mother tongue. Takahashi amp; Beebe (1992) held that transfer consists of both cross-linguistic influence and cross-cultural transfer elements. Kasper (1995) added that the learners both shifted their previous knowledge about politeness principles and communicative strategies into the comprehension and production of the TL(target language). Additionally, many domestic scholars have written many papers about the second language acquisition. They research the positive and negative influences of native language on second language acquisition from pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar and son on. All of these researches give us lots of material to refer to.

It is necessary for me to study these researches to have a full understanding of the native language transfer and second language acquisition. However, more studies are concentrated on some aspects#8217; positive or negative influence whose native language on second language acquisition. So I want to make the addition of other aspects and one aspect is for positive influence and the other is for negative influence .I will concentrate on more different aspects of native language and they influences on second language acquisition.
