1. 研究目的与意义

Journalistic English is a great source of information, with a wide range of topics and contents. Vocabulary is the part and parcel of newspaper and the key to understand news. With the development of social affairs and emergence of new phenomenon, journalistic vocabulary is largely enriched. And in order to attract readers, vocabulary has developed concise and novel features. The analyses of those characteristics and different translation strategies of different vocabulary are important to grasp newspaper and analyses of mistranslation help us command a better understanding of newspaper.

2. 研究内容和预期目标

My paper will give a brief introduction of typical characteristics of journalistic vocabulary and offer some methods of translation of it. My paper will firstly analyze three features of journalistic vocabulary, namely concision, novelty and eclecticism. Then it will probe to discuss translation techniques of typical journalistic vocabulary, such as new words, slang, and figurative words, and provides some examples of mistranslation.

3. 国内外研究现状

There have been many researches on the introduction of journalistic vocabulary#8217;s features and translation made by scholars at home and abroad. For example, Shore. Holly has pointed out his opinions on lexical features of journalistic English in Keywords of Journalistic English, and Liu Biqing has discussed translation of journalistic vocabulary in《文体与翻译》. What#8217;s more, 《英语新闻误译现象举例与剖析》wrote by Zhang Jian has offered many examples of mistranslation.

4. 计划与进度安排

1. Introduction Vocabulary is the key to understand what are written in newspaper. However, its unique characteristics sometimes are a hurdle in translation. It much easier to comprehend and translate newspaper, if a full knowledge of characteristics and translation techniques of journalistic vocabulary are commanded. Three characteristics of journalistic vocabulary are discussed, which are exemplified by analysis of typical examples. Conclusion Journalistic vocabulary is a barometer of the world. To grasp the gist of its characteristics is crucial to translate various words and phrases. Translation of vocabulary requires combination of literal translation and free translation, and requires consideration of cultural differences and readability. Stubbornness of adhering to original words or deviation from original meaning to achieve artistic effects should be avoided.
