The Kite Runner is the first work of Khaled Hosseini. This novel centers on the betrayal andredemption of human nature and the poverty and disaster of the Afghans, as wellas the existence of a series of social issues. This book greatly shocked thewestern society; therefore, scholars at home and abroad pay more attention to TheKite Runner.

The study of The Kite Runner mainly covers three aspects. Thefirst theme is analyzing Aamir and his father’s relation which reflects theAamir’s expatiation of paternal love. For instance, ChenYajie (2019) stressesthat paternal love is what Aamir pursued during his childhood, but he never gotit. However, his father showed love and care for Hassan. It was his father''spreference for Hassan that caused Aamir’s complex feelings towards his father, includinglove, hate and timidity. It was precisely the mixed feelings of love and hatethat aroused his jealousy towards Hassan. Furthermore, Zhao Xiaoling(2016)explained Aamir’s father’s positive impact on him: Although Aamir’s father hadmade mistakes, but he kept trying to achieve his self-salvation. This processalso made Aamir understand that indulge his mistakes is much terrible thanmaking mistakes. The second is the most popular theme that is to discuss Aamir’sredemption pace and the human nature of selfish and betrayal. Chang Liang (2016)describes Aamir’s redemption pace like that: Aamir spent the half of his liferunning away from his friend Hassan, his mistakes and the responsibilities heshould bear. However, he chose to redeem himself in the end, thus gettingpsychological relief. Furthermore, the symbolism aspect is also a popular themethese years. Just like Zhang Ruixue’s (2015) opinion that kites is also acultural symbol of this country. In this sense, 'kite runner' impliesa sense of national cultural belonging and identity. For example, Aamir’s kiterepresents different images in different periods: the kite in his childhood isthe symbol of bravery while at the end, Aamir flied a kite with Sobra, representingthe expectation for Afghanistan’s bright future. Zhao Chunxia(2016) explainsthe yellow kite’s symbol from two aspects: The appearance of yellow kite hereis not simply a symbol of the end of the novel, but also a symbol of the hero Aamir''s memory andyearning for his childhood, as well as his redemption of past and the author''shope for the future of Afghanistan.

In conclusion, Afghanistan is also a significant symbol in this book, but few scholars pay attention to it, therefore, this paper will analyzeAfghanistan’s representative meaning from symbolism perspective.
