A Thematic Study on “The Kite Runner”—Friendship, Betrayal and Salvation 关于《追风筝的人》的主题研究–友谊、背叛以及救赎开题报告

1. 研究目的与意义

this thesis aims to study the theme of the kite runner.whether man is good or evil by nature is an issue that has been argued about by people for thousands of years. mencius considered that men are good at birth. however, xunzi supported that men are evil at birth. from my point of view, both views have their own arguments.

what is good? and what is evil? it#8217;s hard to distinguish. both good and evil are not absolute. in different environments, good can be evil, and evil may equal to good. in the nature, law of the jungle is the law of nature. there is nothing to argue. however, when the same situation existing between mankind, that means evil. for example, a, b and c are strangers who do not know each other. but a helps b to beat c once time. how can you judge a#8217;s behavior? is he good or evil? for b, a helps him while a does harm to c. so good or evil is not easy to judge. we can say that there is a balance between good and evil.

in the kite runner, the author of this book hopes to help readers get a better understanding of the theme of the novel-human nature by describing and analyzing the #8220;good#8221;, #8220;evil#8221; and the #8220;redemption#8221; of the main characters of the novel. the author believes that man is good by nature, although he may deteriorate in the #8220;bad#8221; surroundings and commit all kinds of sins. but once he realizes that, he will try his best to get his soul redeemed and return to good again. that#8217;s why i choose this title as my paper.

2. 研究内容和预期目标

The thesis intends to give a thematic study on this famous work from three perspectives-friendship, betrayal and salvation. It mainly consists of three parts: introduction, three main themes and conclusion. Firstly, the introduction is concerned with the themes deepened by the background of the novel and characters#8217; personalities. Secondly, three main themes are the main part of this thesis. It consists of three parts, concerning the friendship perspectives, betrayal perspectives and salvation perspectives. It also classifies some advantages of writing in multiple themes.At last, the conclusion summarizes this thesis. It helps readers get a better understanding of the theme of the novel. And sum up that man is good by nature, no matter what he has done, once he realized that, he will try his best to get his soul redeemed and return to good again.

What are the three main themes? Why the author wrote in multiple themes? What advantages can be produced by this writing skill? These types of questions would be discussed in my paper primarily.

3. 国内外研究现状

There are many studies about the theme in The Kite Runner. However, instead of a thematic study, scholars are more willing to study on a single theme. So I want to gather information for my thesis through each possible channel. I found some special angles for the theme of this book. It will give me more information to understand the famous work.

There are also many opinions on the same topic. It is necessary for me to study these researches to have a full understanding of a specific angle. And it is also helpful for me to have deep understanding.
