1. 研究目的与意义

Nowadays, with the development of modern technology, transportation and economy, people from different countries communicate with each other more frequently, which promote the process of globalization in a sense. Throughout the long history of the development of human beings, people keep in touch with animals frequently, which results in interdependent relationship between humans and animals. There are a lot of animal words in English and Chinese languages. To some extent, animal words reflect cultural connotations. However, the number of animal words overlaps completely in symbol and cultural connotation in English and Chinese is small. Many animal words only overlap partially. There are also some animal words that have quite different or even opposite cultural meanings in English and Chinese. Therefore, knowing about the animal words can help us to know more about foreign culture and communicate smoothly and correctly in across-culture. Moreover, throughout the comparison between the Chinese and English cultural differences, we know the advantages and disadvantages of our culture. In that case, we can better improve our culture.

2. 研究内容和预期目标

Because of the huge differences in cultural backgrounds, thinking methods, aesthetic value orientation, social psychology, etc. between the two nations, some animal words may have different or completely opposite meanings. Many kinds of cultural obstacles exist in the translation from cross-cultural perspective. It will bring inconvenience to our translation and cross-cultural communication. Therefore, it#8217;s a key problem to successful translation that we should keep the original animal images and their cultural connotations.
